The original creators of the well-known frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has announced that parent company the multinational conglomerate stopped the introduction of a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, who established the company alongside his partner, revealed that he will personally create this new product within a personal collection showcasing causes the company has been barred from speaking out about.

Ongoing Dispute Between Creators versus Corporate Owner

This latest announcement deepens the continuing conflict between the world-famous ice cream maker with Unilever, the British consumer goods corporation that acquired the ice cream brand for over two decades.

Both founders have claimed that the parent company and its ice cream arm Magnum unlawfully blocked their company from "maintaining its activist principles".

The Fruit Sorbet becoming a Symbol for Solidarity

The entrepreneur announced through social media how he's developing a new watermelon-based frozen dessert, asking for consumer ideas regarding the product's name and additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen declared from a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-based frozen dessert that advocates for lasting ceasefire in Palestine and calls for addressing the harm that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has become a symbol for support for Palestinians due to its colors, that mirror the colors in the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Previous Social Engagement plus Current Changes

In 2021, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of its products in areas occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever transferring the Israeli operation to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting ongoing distribution in disputed territories.

The new dessert series will be developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist dessert company which was first created several years back to support former political contender Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Shifts plus Upcoming Intentions

Mr. Cohen indicated that he will create other ice cream flavors focusing on issues that the company was silenced from addressing publicly by Unilever.

This development follows co-founder Jerry Greenfield resigned from the company recently, after many years with the organization, mentioning concerns that its independence had been undermined following corporate moves to restrict its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen stated that “My partner has strong compassion and this conflict with our parent company was breaking it."

"My heart compels me to keep working inside the company to advocate for corporate autonomy ensuring that the company can achieve its ethical purpose, the values that established its foundation while upholding for decades," he told journalists.
