Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations across the region in response for a significant and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity in the area of the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any damage is not yet known and the United States has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their air space.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to rise up against the government.

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a series of missiles," it added.

The statement noted missile fragments fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some structural damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
