Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.

On the field, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
