🔗 Share this article No McKenna Celtic FC Talks as Craig Bellamy Commits to Welsh National Team Ipswich's manager and Wales head coach have been connected with the Celtic manager position The Championship club's their manager declares he has had "zero discussions" with the Glasgow club about their managerial vacancy, while Welsh head coach Craig Bellamy is dedicated to completing his team's World Cup campaign. Each have been linked with the coaching position at the Scottish champions following the former manager's departure on the start of the week. The Manager's Position on The Scottish Club McKenna described the Glasgow giants as "an enormous football club" but emphasized he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with Ipswich Town. The mid-thirties took charge of Ipswich in recent years and led them to the English top flight with consecutive elevations, but they won just a handful of victories last campaign as they were relegated back to the Championship and they currently sit 12th in the Championship. "There have been such discussions," the English capital native former Northern Ireland youth international said when asked about being on the candidate list. "This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any portion of my concentration is this week. "I have a unique job here at a remarkable club. And we're at a really important stage of the campaign. Everything external hasn't touched my radar." Context and Agreement Aspects It has been suggested that the manager would be willing to talk to Celtic given his childhood support. "During youth, we all have our affinities," he said when questioned about those. "It's unlikely everyone has to go around and declare what they used to be, but naturally it's a really big sports organization." McKenna agreed to a new four-year contract in 2024 and was asked about his reported £5m release clause. "In every manager's contract, there are provisions," he responded. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, if I did, I wouldn't tell you regardless! "I tackle this role like I'll be Ipswich manager forever. I understand that's not invariably going to be the situation, but I will consistently do my best as while I am here." Bellamy's Position The former striker represented the Hoops on loan from Newcastle United in the mid-2000s, but the former Welsh forward is minded to finish the ongoing World Cup qualification, a position that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from immediately taking the Celtic job. The Welsh squad are currently in third place in their World Cup group behind group toppers Belgium and second-placed Macedonia. Victories over the minnows and North Macedonia in November would book their position in the final qualifying round, but they are virtually guaranteed of making those, thanks to a productive Nations League performance, even if they not finish as Group J runners-up. Given his present position, the Wales manager, whose contract expires after the European Championship, would be unavailable until after the qualifying matches at the minimum.
