The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-part season created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.

The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together next year."

The last series wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that attracted over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been circulating ever since, but official word only came this week.

New Challenges for The Team

The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case to date."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.

However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser suggested.

Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had countless fans track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new installment."

He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."

Actor Responses

The Scottish actor called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.

Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."

"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."

Show History

Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful television series of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Stephen Graham.

The BBC haven't revealed when the upcoming series will hit screens.

The conclusion of series six drew the extended plot about the hunt for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team said at the moment there were no plans for further series.

Nevertheless, the corporation announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
