The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Track

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure by Critical Role, revealed a new opening credits. It showcases our favorite group of outcasts, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at multiple agonizing personal histories for characters such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

All in all, the opening appears stunning. However, I felt that an element was lost in the song choice.

This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by the production company's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental option, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.

But for me, The series' intro fails to capture the hype and excitement that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it only got better when co-founder the performer wrote words to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that excites you before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, the creators has already said that the animated show will have some changes and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as one of them.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to learn about the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
