The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
